James Isaak: Songs

On The Eve Of Deployment

(James Isaak)
Well tonight is the night that I go
the training is over its time for the show
but I cant help but wonder, and be a little afraid
I dont know if I’ll make it back home

When I was just a young man
my father explained of the duties I’d have
to be strong and be brave and be sure that I came
if my country should call me to stand

Now politics don’t mean much to me
I just a simple man reaching for a piece of the dream
I hear all this tough talk between preachers and kings
all I see is my country in need.

But I look at mychild and my wife
at the fear in their eyes at the thought of my life
being taken from me in lands far past the sea
and I wonder will they be all right

And something feels heavy inside
this is what I was taught but it doesn’t feel right
how can I fight for my home in a country unknown
I dont see any answers in sight

But these questions were not made for me
I’m just a simple man clinging to the ghost of a dream
and I’ll put all my faith into preachers and kings
and I’ll pray that they know how to lead

So tonight is the night that I go
the training is over its time for the show
and so now I must leave you but please pray for me
cause I know that I want to come home
